Red Knot Delaware Shore Trip

Red Knot and Delaware Bay Shorebirds

5/29/2022

By popular demand Fred and Jane Fallon have agreed to reprise their long-running annual field trip to view Red Knots and other shorebirds at Delaware Bay. Fred and Jane will lead you to many diverse areas along the Bay to see how Horseshoe crab eggs feed migrating shorebirds. Be prepared for an all day outing.  Bring lunch, water, insect repellent, sunscreen, appropriate weather related gear, and a scope if you have one.

This year there will be no formal rendezvous at the Bowie P&R. Instead, please meet at Bombay Hook (BH) by 9 AM. (The driving time from Bowie is ~ 1 ½ hrs.) At BH, we will first bird around the VC a while to give a time cushion to arrivals. We’ll have lunch at BH ~ noon, and then proceed to other shore hot-spots to be determined by scouting and last-minute reports. There will be opportunity for some land birding too.

Please let Fred and Jane know you will be attending by sending Fred an email at fwfallon@ymail.com. Fred will send out an email to all respondents. Those willing to take a passenger(s) can “reply all” to that effect, and those desiring rides can respond directly to any or all. This way drivers and passengers can link up at places mutually agreeable.

Further information will be supplied before trip day.
